Disaster Sciences is a multidisciplinary minor that exposes students to the science and practice in fields such as emergency management and disaster mental health. The disaster context considered includes natural and technological disasters, pandemic, domestic and international terrorism, and climate change/environmental degradation. Students receive training in research areas within the disaster sciences, and with respect to occupations in emergency management. The minor is also of potential interest to first responders and related occupations. The minor promotes an integrated understanding of human behavior before, during, and after disasters, and an enhanced ability to work effectively across disciplines in diverse disaster-related socio-political-cultural-economic contexts.
